Accidents
An incident/accident is defined as: Any damage to any vehicle or any injury to any person involving a transportation services rental vehicle. As soon as possible after an accident, and all concerned are out of immediate danger, notify Transportation Services by calling the appropriate numbers listed at the bottom of your "Rental Form."
Please use the pink "Notice of Incident" form included with your rental materials to document information about the incident/accident to include the presence of witnesses when appropriate.
For any incident/accident, the driver must obtain an official accident report from the local law enforcement agency and forward it to Transportation Services by the most expeditious means available (Transportation Services Fax# 575-646-1756) or let Transportation Services know how to obtain a copy.
If the incident/accident occurs on private property and local law enforcement will not investigate, call the State Police and advise that a state owned vehicle is involved and the incident must be investigated and documented. Please refrain from discussing any details of an accident with anyone other than law enforcement personnel.
It is most important that Transportation Services be kept informed as to the status of the Transportation Services vehicle, so that the best course of action can be coordinated between Transportation Services, the OFS Mechanics Shop and the needs of our customer. It is the sole discretion of Transportation Services as to whether the vehicle is repaired locally or retrieved.
Transportation Services will of course do its best to accommodate our customer's transportation needs following an accident, subject to vehicle location, availability of a substitute vehicle and other circumstances. However, Transportation Services is under no obligation to guarantee transportation following the loss of use of the vehicle.
All costs associated with an incident/accident are the responsibility of the driver/department. However, Transportation Services will file all claims for reimbursement. Both the New Mexico Risk Management and supplemental insurance coverages are dependent upon proper procedures having been followed in accordance with Transportation Services and state policies governing state owned vehicles.
