Website Credit Card Security
This page provides information on the security features of the Parking Office website for credit card transactions
What steps are taken to ensure my credit card information is secure?
The NMSU Parking Office uses a secure server for its credit card processing site. The credit card number is not kept in any databases, nor do employees of the Parking Office have access to it. The credit card number and expiration are sent directly to the Bank of America (NMSU's credit card processing company) for authorization.
Is it possible for someone else to use my credit card on the site without my approval?
In order to reduce the possibility of someone using another person's credit card without authorization, the Parking Office has selected one of the highest levels of electronic verification available. The person using the credit must enter the following information correctly in order for the credit card to be used to purchase permits or pay citations:
Credit Card Number
Credit Card Expiration Date
Name (as it appears on the credit card)
Billing Address for the credit card
E-mail Address registered with the credit card company
If this information does not match, the system will automatically decline the transaction. In order to help ensure someone cannot use your credit card without authorization, do not disclose the above information to people you do not trust.
I have tried using the website, but keep getting a message my credit card was declined. What is wrong?
The most likely cause of this message is that the required security information does not match exactly (assuming the credit card is valid and the transaction amount is within the limits of the card). The information entered on the website must match exactly with the information on file with the credit card company (see above). Failure to use a middle initial, using punctuation that is not used by the credit card company (such as hyphenations), or using an e-mail address that is different can all cause the transaction to be declined. Please check this information carefully when entering it. If this does not clear up the problem, please contact the bank issuing your credit card for assistance. They will be able to review their records and give you the reason it was declined.
