Parking Services

 About Us

The Parking Department is responsible for administering the parking program for NMSU.  This includes the development of parking lots, issuing of parking permits and enforcement of parking regulations.

In 1998, the Parking Department was restructured with a new mission - service to the university community.  The Parking Department works to identify parking problems and reduce the number of citations that must be issued, working instead to gain compliance by addressing the needs of the university community.  A number of studies conducted by the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs over the past decade has shown that parking access is the top concern of students at NMSU.  While there are plenty of parking spaces on campus, they often are not in the areas where students wish to park.

In 1999, the two parking lots in the worst condition on campus (lot #17 and lot #55) were completely overhauled.  New lighting and landscaping were added to these lots, and the re-design resulted in an increase in the number of spaces available to students and faculty/staff.  In January 2001, a new 208-space parking lot (lot #100) was created in the center of campus, and in the spring of 2001 a new 200-space parking lot was created on the west end of campus (lot #103).  The Parking Department is committed to developing additional parking in the areas where our customers need it.  Plans are already underway to expand other parking lots in the center of campus, as well as build additional new lots.  In order to be fair to everyone, every attempt is made to designate the new lots as "all permit" - open for anyone with a valid parking permit (students, faculty, staff, and visitors).

In order to make it easier for our customers to access our services, this website has gone through two major improvements.  As of July 2000, students, faculty, and staff have been able to purchase parking permits over the internet (no more need to stand in line).  As of July 2001, this service has been made faster, and the ability to lookup your own customer information and make changes has been added.  It is also now possible to pay citations over the internet.

If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, please feel free to contact us.  It is only with the input of our customers than we can continue to improve our services.
